
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced the results of the residential mortgage survey for August 2026.
The number of mortgage applications in August decreased month-on-month by 8.3% to 8,446.
Mortgage loans approved in August decreased by 28.2% compared with July to HK$32.2 billion. Among these, mortgage loans financing primary market transactions decreased by 31.8% to HK$9.1 billion and those financing secondary market transactions decreased by 36.7% to HK$15.3 billion. Mortgage loans for refinancing increased by 6.8% to HK$7.8 billion.
Mortgage loans drawn down during August increased by 11.6% compared with July to HK$32.8 billion.
The ratio of new mortgage loans priced with reference to HIBOR decreased from 61% in July to 57% in August. The ratio of new mortgage loans priced with reference to best lending rates increased from 1.3% in July to 1.9% in August.
The outstanding value of mortgage loans increased month-on-month by 0.6% to HK$1,975.4 billion at end-August.
The mortgage delinquency ratio stood at a low level of 0.11% and the rescheduled loan ratio was unchanged at nearly 0%.
